Killing Envy
"Even in laughter, the heart may ache and rejoicing may end in grief."- Proverbs 14:13 NIV
With the advent of Facebook and the recent, Instagram, our lives are on constant display for others to evaluate and critique. Some may look at our smiles, the way we dress, where we're vacationing and who we're dating not in happiness or excitement, but with hate, jealousy and envy. It may sound difficult to digest, recognize or admit, but not everyone who can see snippets of your life is happy for the goodness in it. Funny, and even sad thing, is people will fail to understand how those smiles and days of sunshine are sometimes fleeting; we may not be able to see the sadness that was present a few moments before the flash. We may never know about the death of a family member weeks after the vacation. King Solomon warns us that envying others based on their outward appearance can be dangerous because everyone in this life has their own burden to bear.
Prayer for Today: Dear Lord, thank You for this day. Thank You for my life and everything You've blessed me with. Please help me to keep my focus on Your goodness and what you're doing in my life. Let me not fall into the temptation of envy, hatred or jealousy because these are not fruits of the Holy Spirit. Keep my mind stayed on you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
